Technical and health issues cause nerves to jangle
There are some very nervous Formula 1 staff in Bahrain tonight, with just one day of testing remaining on Saturday ahead of next weekend’s season-opening Grand Prix. After Barcelona’s opening pre-season test went relatively glitch-free for the majority of teams, apart from the highly obvious porpoising issue, Bahrain has set alarm bells ringing at many of them. At McLaren it’s overheating front brakes that are causing concern – not to mention Daniel Ricciardo’s Covid diagnosis – while at Williams, a brake problem caused a major fire that seriously damaged the rear of its FW44. Alpine too had a fire on Thursday and suffered another breakdown today that cost track time, while Alfa Romeo encountered hydraulic issues. Even Lewis Hamilton claims that his slimline Mercedes was tough to tame, and Kevin Magnussen did his best to turn the form book on its head by setting the fastest time in some extra-time running for Haas! Wild times indeed… By: Charles Bradley, Global Editor in Chief Motorsport.com |
