Hello all— About a year ago I visited Egypt, a trip I still consider one of the best of my life. There were, however, some downsides, and one of them was undoubtedly my visit to the Giza Pyramids. So, when Nick Hilden pitched a piece detailing just how sorry a state conditions there have reached, as well as solutions, I jumped. I think you’ll find it fascinating. I can’t imagine I’ll get into birding any time soon–I am not a patient person. However, seeing thousands upon thousands of cranes all in one spot sounds pretty magnificent in Brandon Withrow’s telling, and it would give me a reason to visit overlooked Nebraska. Rounding out our newsletter this week is Keith Taillon’s visit to a restored Art Deco wonder in New York City and Adrienne Jordan’s guide to all sorts of aquatic adventures in Baja.
Enjoy! — William O’Connor, Travel Editor |

“The images and videos shared of the crowds outside these events are staggering. TikTok is flooded with footage of Swift-induced traffic jams, both vehicular and pedestrian. And it’s not just the actual ticket-holders who are getting in on the craze: People without tickets have been showing up outside stadiums anyway, just to tailgate.” |

Nothing is more annoying than having to chug your $17 airport latte before boarding your flight in anticipation of having nowhere to set it down while stowing your carry-on and settling into your seat. Fortunately, this flight attendant-approved detachable cup holder for suitcases exists, and it is pure hands-free convenience. This flexible double cup holder can comfortably hold your coffee, smoothie, and water bottles up to 64 ounces so you can stay hydrated on the go. —Scouted by Mia Maguire |

Unlike Rome, Venice, Florence, or even Naples, Milan for the casual tourist can be a challenge. There isn’t a long checklist of must-sees. In fact, Italy’s most modern city can seem cold and uninviting. But a new book from Vendome, Inside Milan: Colorfully Creative Italian Interiors, takes you past the forbidding gray stone walls of its apartment buildings and into some of the city’s more spectacular residences. It’s also the latest selection for our series on gorgeous new coffee table books, Just Booked. |
And while the streetscape of Milan might be relatively sedate, these homes are anything but. They’re colorful, loud, vibrant, provocative, sumptuous, and filled with odds and ends that come alive through Taroni’s lens. There are decadent historic rooms like those of the rarely-photographed Palazzo Trivulzio Brivio Sforza (say that five times fast!) and ones filled with so many patterns and textures and materials like that of Lapo Elkann’s modern penthouse your eyes might struggle to take it all in. Don’t miss our other selections for our series on gorgeous travel-related coffee table books, Just Booked. |
