Why the Macy's closing could be a big deal for the mall

BY ADAM DAIGLE | Acadiana business editor

First a disclaimer: I tried to speak with a lot of people for this story about what's going to happen when Macy's closes its Acadiana Mall store.

Lots of people did not want to go on record.

Foot traffic at the mall, like just about every other mall in the country over the last decade or so, has dropped significantly. I had one national firm, Placer.ai, run a report for me for this story, and the mall was down year-over-year traffic every month but one since January 2023.

Macy's might have very little traffic itself, but with two of the four anchor spots going empty, it could trigger lease agreements with those inside the mall to go into default, one analyst told me.

You can check out my story here.

Have a good day and thanks for reading.
