A recent announcement that “Scooby-Doo” character Velma Dinkley would be reprised as East Asian in a new version of the show sent some Scooby traditionalists into a frenzy. What they may not have realized is that of the dozen or so actresses who have voice-animated Velma or played her in live-action adaptations, some were women of color. But those more open to the idea of a nonwhite Velma also had concerns. |
