Right in downtown Fort Payne is a set of bronze statues to honor country supergroup Alabama, who famously hails from the small northeast Alabama town. And right across the street from them is a huge mural of the town’s other superstar, Pete the Cat.
As we enter the dog days of summer, we celebrate Lucy, a bloodhound who made a name for herself in Mobile. She was the face of Save a Stray, the nonprofit founded by Stephanie Eads-Williamson and Dr. Jeni Knizley. She also volunteered at a hospital, wore pearls to church and enjoyed the occasional vanilla ice cream cone. Read more about how Lucy helped her community and other dogs in need here.
