Recently on Facebook, I shared my recipe for homemade ketchup, which does require a bit more work than some other recipes. In fact, a few readers pointed out that it wasn't cost effective because of the energy expended. But other readers mentioned they make their own because it is a higher quality product, not because it is cheaper.

That's the beauty of canning: It accomplishes many different things for different people!

Here's another example.

Beans are so easy to store in their dried state that it is easy to just leave them there and use them dry. But how many times have you wished you'd thought to soak your beans ahead of time so you could make chili? Or what if you need to eat the beans during an emergency, but you don't have access to much water? Those are all valid reasons to can dried beans ahead of time.
