Getting Ahead
Fields such as local and state government, finance, insurance, education, and health care are considered relatively recession-proof, providing steady opportunities even in a cooling labor market. Health care, in particular, continues to experience significant job growth. Experts suggest that job seekers expand their search to these sectors, as they are more likely to be hiring regardless of broader economic conditions.

Employees who live and breathe a company's values can significantly enhance customer retention, according to leadership consultant Alaina Love. She explains how an airline pilot on a recent trip made a difficult delay much more tenable to passengers by keeping them all regularly informed: "Bill wasn't just our pilot; he was the airline company, and every decision he made impacted its reputation with the traveling public."

The Landscape
The trend of "boomerang employees" -- those who return to work for a previous employer -- is on the rise, making up 35% of new hires in March, up from 31% a year earlier, according to ADP. This resurgence reflects changes in the workforce, including a reduced willingness to relocate, a cooling housing market, and a cautious labor environment that makes returning to a former employer more appealing.

Balancing Yourself
A new study challenges the traditional view that burnout is primarily work-related. The research, involving 813 employees in Norway, found that less than 30% of participants attributed burnout to their jobs. Instead, a broader range of life factors, such as personal stress and anxiety, contribute significantly to burnout. The findings suggest a need to rethink definitions and strategies for addressing burnout.

Are managed 401(k) accounts worth the extra cost?
From sister publication Kiplinger: Choosing a managed 401(k) account comes with an annual fee ranging from 0.4% to 0.6% of the account balance, in addition to the regular fund expenses. For example, with a $250,000 account, this translates to an extra $1,000 to $1,500 per year for professional management. While these fees pay for customized advice and ongoing support, they are a consideration for retirement savers. Investors need to weigh whether the cost justifies the benefits, especially if they have the knowledge and confidence to manage their own investments.

Why Kiplinger stories?
Why Kiplinger stories?
I'm sure you've noticed I have been including a story from Kiplinger each issue. Kiplinger is one of our other publications here at Future (SmartBrief's parent company), and the editors write so many great stories that are applicable to Your Career readers that I thought I would start sharing them.

Kiplinger first started publishing in 1920 and became part of our company nearly five years ago. If you are interested in learning more about personal finance, check out Kiplinger's newsletters.
