Soak up Prokofiev's final symphony with Half Six Fix The London Symphony Orchestra has something rather special up its sleeves for the next instalment of its Half Six Fix concert series. Head to the Barbican on Wednesday 19 June and spend an hour immersed in the nostalgic world of Prokofiev's Symphony No 7. Not familiar with this sort of music? No stress — your evening's conductor is something of a Prokofiev pro. Gianandrea Noseda has earned rave reviews for his explorations of the 20th century giant's work, and his witty introductions are a firm favourite among Half Six Fix audiences. The Half Six Fix concept is all about opening up orchestral music to more people, so you can expect a layperson-friendly primer on Prokofiev's final, bittersweet symphony — commissioned for Soviet state children's radio — before the LSO works its magic on it. Plus, during the performance you'll see close-ups of the musicians on the big screen, for extra insight into the workings of an orchestra. All of the above happens between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, leaving you with plenty of time to enjoy one of the lightest evenings of the year. What's more, our readers get 2-for-1 tickets with the code LDN23HSF. Why not bring along a friend and enjoy a balmy debrief in one of the Barbican's bars afterwards?
