Will he run?

U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy raised eyebrows across Louisiana when he voted to convict former President Donald Trump on his impeachment charges of inciting a riot at the U.S. Capitol. 

There's buzz throughout the state's political scene that he's running for governor. The idea is that his willingness to break with Trump positions him to run as a moderate in a field so far dominated by conservatives actively invoking their support for the former president. 

This story looks at the latest rumors on Cassidy's thinking and how an announcement from him could shake up the field. 

Amazon's affect on wages

Amazon's mammoth fulfillment center, currently under construction at the old Cortana Mall, is one of the biggest single influxes of Baton Rouge jobs in years. The company is planning to hire roughly 1,000 workers at at least $15 an hour.

It's too early to tell how exactly that will affect Baton Rouge's job market, which is already changing rapidly due to COVID and recent inflation. But some government agencies are already asking for money to give their workers raises, saying they won't be able to find enough people to fill jobs.

Two fatal stabbings

Around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, West Baton Rouge sheriff's deputies responded to a house and found a person stabbed to death. That afternoon, as they were investigating, the body of a second person was found in a nearby field; investigators think the deaths are related.
