Dear Reader, As you’re probably aware, I and other high-level thinkers believe we’re close to plunging into an unfolding debt crisis… including the potentially devastating recession and bear market that goes with it. So exactly where are we in that debt cycle? When can we expect it to reach its peak (or bottom, if you prefer)? And how do you capitalize on opportunities that will arise… while protecting what you have now? I believe our Global Debt Crisis panel at SIC 2019 will provide the best available solutions to such crucial questions. Howard Marks is the co-chairman of Oaktree Capital, a $120 billion+ hedge fund focused on debt. He’s also the author of must-read blockbuster Mastering the Market Cycle. I’ve been sharing his quarterly “Oaktree Memos” letters with Over My Shoulder readers for years, but SIC 2019 is where we’ll get to hear him live on stage. Howard will be talking about his investment strategy and economic insights, debt and credit crises in particular, and how he’s planning to profit from them. Howard will be joined on the panel by Carmen Reinhart, co-author of the book This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly which is the definitive book on historical governmental debt crises. Among other insights, she highlights the striking similarities between the recurring booms and busts that have marked financial history. Carmen is the Professor of the International Financial System at the Harvard Kennedy School and ranked among the top five economists worldwide based on publications and scholarly citations. The contrasting backgrounds here couldn’t be more enticing: on one hand we have one of the world’s top debt investors and on the other, one of the world’s top academics on debt cycles! But Howard and Carmen won’t be alone on the panel. They’ll be joined by… Bill White, a senior fellow at major thinktank C.D. Howe Institute and a leading light on macroeconomics and monetary policy. Bill offers exceptional central banking and international policy knowledge as past chairman of the Economic and Development Review Committee at the OECD in Paris. He also worked with the BIS (Bank of International Settlements) as economic adviser and head of the Monetary and Economic Department (MED). Bill will provide deep insight into the banking aspects of the debt cycle. Plus there’s Cullum Clark, the director of the Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative where he leads the institute’s work on domestic economic policy and economic growth. Cullum offers valuable insight into what’s actually being done here in America about the crisis. And last but not least, the panel is completed by… John Mauldin, (yes, me!) as chairman of Mauldin Economics and author of Thoughts from the Frontline. I’ll ensure we get the very most from each expert. After all, the SIC is one of the key highlights of the 30+ years I’ve dedicated to keeping investors informed about risk, debt cycles, and the biggest issues facing the economy and our investment portfolios. Remember, there’s nothing more ominous than a debt crisis. It’s why this panel is central to the entire SIC… …and why you really don’t want to miss it. There simply won’t be any better venue offering the insight you need to thrive during the upcoming recession and ultimately “The Great Reset” itself. That’s why we’re all truly excited about this year’s SIC. Will you be there to learn from the Global Debt panel in person? You can save your seat right now plus save $1,000 with Priority pricing. Your preparing to thrive during the debt crisis analyst, John Mauldin Chairman, Mauldin Economics P.S. You might recall that I spend considerable time talking with each speaker prior to SIC so I understand what they’ll be presenting and how to arrange them with other speakers to create the very best panels. There’s no better example than this year’s debt panel. As I’ve just shown you, the all-star lineup is extraordinary.
