 BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer After days of snow, ice and frigid temperatures, things will warm up today, with a forecast high temperature of 46 degrees. Things will begin a slow return to normalcy; flights have resumed at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, and roads should be clearing. However, area schools and government office will remain closed at least for Thursday. The improvement in conditions should be welcome for all — except maybe big fans of snow — after the airport recorded its coldest temperature ever with a 7-degree reading early Wednesday. The storm Tuesday dumped up to 9 inches of snow on the city, the National Weather Service reported. It seemed like the entire world was shut down, at least our little part of it. Fans of crawfish boils, give a sigh of relief. The historic snowstorm and freezing weather of this week will only have a short-term impact on mudbugs this year, according to a crawfish extension agent with the LSU AgCenter. Crawfish season was getting into a little groove ahead of snowy conditions that hit south Louisiana, and things should be back on schedule soon. |
