There will always be toxic people in the workplace, but the trick is in knowing how to handle them. Here is a guide to five typical toxic personality types and the best method for dealing with them.
Leaders have to make difficult choices, so it's important for them to be fair and listen carefully to their teams so their business can succeed, says Ryta Zasiekina, CEO of FYST. "Issuing directives where you are simply handing out tasks and telling people what to do is completely ineffectual for business," says Zasiekina.

If your business email sign-off is boring, you can follow Shaun Usher's lead and ask ChatGPT to create some new ones for you including "With focused determination," "Your business ally," or "In the realm of success." Usher used the bot to concoct ending phrases for other styles of communication including apologies: "Repentantly," congratulations: "Extending my warmest felicitations," and romantic: "With the pulse of passion."
The number of tenured faculty continues to decline as colleges increase the number of contingent and part-time faculty, the American Association of University Professors reports. The survey found 68% held positions without a tenure track in 2021, compared with 47% in 1987, and 48% were part-time in 2021, compared with 33% in 1987.
The percentage of US job postings that include salary information has increased to 40% on Indeed -- largely a result of new pay transparency laws and pressure from social media and young employees, according to a report from the job listings site. "Over the last year, the most significant rise in transparency has occurred in high-wage jobs, which have historically provided less pay information upfront," Indeed researchers say.
Advocates in California, Massachusetts, New York and other states are pushing for minimum hourly wages of at least $20 in light of inflation. However, opponents note that small businesses would struggle to pay such wages and stay afloat.
Help employees turn fear into strength and courage by letting them know anxiety is natural and encouraging them to do something outside of their comfort zone each day, says Scott Simon, author of "Scare Your Soul: 7 Powerful Principles to Harness Fear and Lead Your Most Courageous Life." "Encourage employees to track one doable, courageous act in the workplace, such as speaking to someone intimidating or new, having a tough but necessary conversation, engaging in a new exercise class in the company gym or before work, proactively taking on a new work role, or taking the time to focus on self-care," Simon says.
Usually, when we talk about robots doing grunt work, we note that the technology won't actually displace humans. But in some cases, it could. One example is window cleaners. Israel-based startup Verobotics created a robot that cleans windows and is able to scale the sides of buildings. The robot moves in a crablike fashion and can also check exteriors for needed repairs.
