Back in late September of 2023, there was a real-life story that followed a similar narrative, except it wasn’t just one relationship being broken – it was thousands.

To thicken the plot even further: these weren’t human-to-human relationships – instead, they were human-to-AI.

Oh, and the ‘controlling father’? He wasn’t a human, but a company (called Soulmate) which chose to close down, taking the AI companions with it.

Cool. What does this have to do with crypto?

Well, that very next month, an app called Moemate launched and has amassed 6M users since 2023.

Now, here’s the kicker: users will now be able to tip their favorite creators and monetize/tokenize any agents they create on the platform.

…is this another step towards a strange dystopian future where it's common for people to create/sell what is essentially a digital Only Fans model?

Yeah, kinda feels like it.

But what we’re choosing to focus on here is the onboarding event itself.

This is a company bringing 6M individual users onchain.

For context: When the president and first lady launched their $TRUMP and $MELANIA memecoins over the weekend (still feels weird to say that), 47% of the wallets that bought into them were newly created. 

Meaning at best, these memecoins onboarded 520k new users.

Moemate is beating those numbers by more than 11x.

The takeaway: the best method of bringing new users onchain isn’t to build in web3, but to migrate from web2.

(Also, the future’s about to get real weird).
