Hi, Corbin Middlemas from ABC SPORT here.
18 teams, nine matches, three venues, one city… and there’s only one place to hear it all: the ABC listen app.
For the first time in 2023, the ABC listen app is streaming every match of the AFL premiership season, including the inaugural ‘Gather Round’, staged in Adelaide from April 13-16.
The concept, borrowed from the NRL’s Magic Round, brings all 18 clubs together for one weekend for a festival of footy.
Six matches will be played at the famed Adelaide Oval, two at Norwood Oval and one in the Adelaide Hills.
The Adelaide Crows open the weekend, hosting Carlton on Thursday night, in front of a sold-out crowd at Adelaide Oval. The Crows upset the Blues last time they met, which ultimately cost Carlton a drought-breaking finals appearance in 2022.
Despite overlaps in Sunday’s fixture, all matches will still be broadcast via the ABC listen app. The AFL button is complimented by the AFL Extra button, providing you with a choice of which game you would like to listen to uninterrupted. This option is available for any overlapping fixtures throughout the 2023 AFL season.
Joining me in commentary in Adelaide will be Kelli Underwood, Matt Clinch, Ben Cameron, Clint Wheeldon, Aaron Bryans and Neil Cross.
Our expert commentary team includes three-time premiership coach Mick Malthouse, Port Adelaide AFLW coach Lauren Arnell, premiership players Luke Ball and Adam Ramanauskas and former Carlton captain Marc Murphy. Plus, local knowledge from SA football royalty, such as Rod Jameson, Josh Francou, Scott Thompson and Stephen Williams.
I hope you can join us this weekend for Gather Round – on ABC Radio, ABC Sport Digital and now streaming through the ABC listen app – lookout for the AFL button!
