Flying bikers: Dutch competitors brave the stormEuropean residents recently hunkered down to endure the wrath of Storm Ciara, which threatened the continent with gale force winds and heavy rain. But a little water never hurt anyone, which is why competitors in Dutch Headwind Cycling Championships chose to endure the storm for the sake of friendly competition. This impromptu race involved charging headfirst on a featherweight, fixed-gear bike into the wind of an oncoming storm, and more than 250 riders were said to attend. But things got out of hand quickly, as the winds were powerful enough to send several competitors flying into the air with bikes in tow. Some even wound up with minor injuries in the process. At the end of the day, the event was called off early â but the bikers involved now know what it really feels like to fly. Letâs not rain on their parade. Could an electric-powered bike have helped the riders stay grounded? Probably not. Tap or click to see if itâs worth replacing your bike with an electric one. â |
