Today the Chancellor has announced a new programme to replace the furlough scheme and protect jobs in the face of tighter coronavirus restrictions. You can follow the latest in our liveblog, read details as to how the scheme will work, and discover who the winners and losers are.

With these strict restrictions upon us, how much discussion has there been on the right balance of policies? Allister Heath argues that the Government’s decisions are being made without due consideration or examination because of three taboos which prevent honest discussion of the pandemic.
