UIA PRIZES

10 NOVEMBER 2022

WINNERS OF THE LIANG SICHENG PRIZE

EDITIONS 2020 & 2022

The winners of the 10th and 11th editions of the Liang Sicheng Prize, organised biennially by UIA Chinese Member Section, the Architectural Society of China (ASC), have been announced.

Evaluation of the two editions was successfully merged over the course of one single meeting by the same jury because the 10th edition jury meeting was postponed due to the pandemic in 2020. Japanese architect Arata Isozaki and Chinese architect Li Xinggang were chosen as winners of the 10th Liang Sicheng Architecture Prize. Chinese architects Zhang Li and Hu Yue won the 2022 (11th) Liang Sicheng Architecture Prize.

The jury, chaired by SONG Chunhua, Chair (China), former Vice Minister of Ministry of Construction and former ASC President, included architect Vassilis Sgoutas (Greece), UIA Representative Georg Pendl (Austria), architect Kenneth Yeang (Malaysia), professor of architecture ZHENG Shiling (China), professor of architecture CHENG Taining (China), professor of architecture MENG Jianmin (China), professor of architecture CHANG Qing (China), professor of architecture MEI Hongyuan (China), architect HUANG Xingyuan (China) and architect ZHOU Kai (China).  UIA International Competitions Commission Co-Director Jerzy Grochulski (Poland),  ZOU Chao (China) from the China Association for Science and Technology and ZHOU Xiaojie (China) from the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development observed the proceedings.

The winning architects were honoured for having dedicated their careers to preserving architectural heritage and developing technological and socially responsible innovations in the field of architecture.

Founded in 2000 by the Ministry of Construction of the People’s Republic of China (MOC) to honour practising architects and scholars and open to international participants since 2016, the prize is named for Chinese architect, professor and scholar Liang Sicheng, the 50th anniversary of whose death coincided with the jury meeting.
