- Winter storm warning for Friday and Friday night |
National Weather Service
|
❄️ Expect a major winter storm Friday. ❄️ The storm is currently developing over Colorado and is heading our way. ❄️ Snow expected to blanket the Twin Cities with heavier totals south.
Some portions of the watch area are likely to see at least a foot of snow, but exact locations can’t be forecast so precisely. While it looks as though the greatest amounts are likely to be south of the Twin Cities, amounts of around a foot could fall in Dakota County in the southeast metro.
The core of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area should get around 6 to 8 inches while just a few inches will fall on the northernmost suburbs. Note that these amounts could change in later forecasts. Snowfall amounts will taper off quickly along the northwest edge of the storm.

- Prosecutors told jurors that Kimberly Potter, the ex-Brooklyn Center officer, acted recklessly in firing her service weapon in disregard of her substantial training and sworn duty. The defense described it as an accident, that she intended to stun Wright, not kill him. Day two of the trial resumes this morning. Follow live on mprnews.org.
Minnesota jurors must speak English — some worry that's a proxy for race in jury selection. Attorneys can’t strike potential jurors because of their race, but they can excuse jurors for linguistic reasons in most courts. It happened in both the Derek Chauvin and Kimberly Potter trials.
What does the phrase 'The Twin Cities' refer to? In a conversation Wednesday on Twitter, many respondents emphasized the role of distance in shaping this terminology. What do you think? Tell MPR News.
