Good evening,

More signs today that the COVID-19 pandemic is taking another serious turn: Some Minnesota hospital systems say they are running short on staff to attend patients.

Hospitals around the state report more than 90 percent of hospital beds are filled. The number is higher in the metro. The pressure comes from COVID patients, people addressing medical needs put off during the pandemic and the typical trauma care resulting from Minnesotans being active outside.

Kids across Minnesota are heading back to school in the thick of rising COVID-19 cases spurred on by the highly contagious delta variant.

And across Minnesota, demand for COVID-19 testing is increasing, straining the state’s testing infrastructure, which had just started to scale back when cases dropped earlier in the summer.

“We are seeing an increase in volume and testing at the state testing sites,” said Minnesota Department of Health Assistant Commissioner Dan Huff.
