Dear Supporter, I’m sure you’ve seen the devastating scenes from Pakistan on the news. I’m writing to let you know that UNHCR’s teams are on the ground, providing flood survivors with shelter and other survival essentials.
UNHCR has been working in Pakistan for more than 40 years – and we will stay and deliver for those in need.
“Literally, one-third of Pakistan is under water right now,” said Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s Climate Change Minister.
Monsoonal flooding has killed at least 1,000 people and affected 30 million so far, with homes, roads and crops washed away. Those who managed to escape are crowding into makeshift camps.
“Village after village has been wiped out. Millions of houses have been destroyed,” said Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
UNHCR is on the ground and aims to assist 5.2 million people in Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
Our teams are providing shelter, emergency rations and medical care for flood-affected communities. This includes particularly vulnerable communities that host Afghan refugees.
Thank you for supporting UNHCR’s life-saving work. I’ll be in touch again with further updates as they become available. To view further information or make a donation, please visit our website.
