Dear Friend,

I don't want this to be the last Earth Day on which we're celebrating the recovery of gray wolves. But if we don't act now, it absolutely could be.

The Trump administration plans to strip ALL remaining federal protections for wolves across nearly all of the Lower 48 states. If Trump and his allies in Congress have their way, we could see these remarkable creatures yanked back from the brink of recovery as they lose protections keeping trophy hunters, trappers, and others at bay.

Let's be clear—we're here because the pressure to delist wolves by pro-ranching and pro-Big Farming GOP members of Congress has been relentless.

We're rushing to stop this proposal from becoming policy, Friend. Gray wolves have barely begun to recover in some areas, and removing their Endangered Species Act protections now could destroy decades of successful work to bring them back from the brink of extinction. With your support, we're moving quickly to mobilize the grassroots, press Congress, and prep our litigation teams for potentially yet another round of court battles before vital protections are removed.

But we can't do it all without your support today. The outlook for our iconic gray wolves is so dire that a group of generous donors has offered to match every gift, dollar for dollar—but act fast, because this $300,000 match to support our work EXPIRES on Earth Day:

Rush your Earth Day gift now to have it matched, DOUBLING your impact on the Sierra Club's work to stop the Trump administration's Fish and Wildlife Service and all attempts to drive gray wolves and other precious species closer to extinction. You'll also get our Insulated Cooler Tote Bag—FREE.

Friend, wolves are the wild ancestors of all the domestic dogs we know and love. And protecting wolves protects the rest of our wild ecosystems: Wolves help maintain balance by regulating elk and deer populations, reducing the spread of wildlife disease and keeping herds from overgrazing, allowing trees, grasses, and other animals down the food chain to thrive.

Thanks to the Endangered Species Act, supported by 4 out of 5 Americans — including 73% of hunters—wolves have started to recover. Still, considering gray wolves numbered 2 million at their peak, a total Lower 48 population of 5,500 is hardly reason to celebrate, or roll back vital safeguards—especially since the administration's proposal would put gray wolf survival in the hands of states with increasingly anti-wolf policies. Wolves have already lost protections in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming—resulting in 3,200 wolves killed just since 2011.

Simply put, wolves still need federal protections. The Sierra Club is prepared to block the Trump administration's myriad attacks on the Endangered Species Act—while mobilizing grassroots and legislative support for policies that keep our natural systems in balance and ensure our wild places stay wild. Help us by making your Earth Day gift and DOUBLING your impact now.

Please, rush your gift now to have it matched by Earth Day—DOUBLING your impact.

Wolves are vitally important to healthy ecosystems—as evidenced when they were reintroduced to places like Yellowstone and the Rocky Mountains. Unfortunately, it wasn't until they were wiped out from decades of unregulated killing that people realized the crucial role wolves play in maintaining biodiversity.

We won't let the Trump administration and Congress take us back there. With your support, we will save our precious gray wolves from extinction—and the Endangered Species Act from Trump's poison pen.

Ever vigilant,

Lena Moffitt
