| | | | | Week in review | | Staples to be split? | | The soon-to-be owner of Staples, Sycamore Partners, reportedly intends to split the Framingham office retailer in three to help fund the purchase. Sycamore, a New York private equity company, will split Staples into a United States division, a Canadian one and a third for its corporate-supply business, The Wall Street Journal reported. All three would remain under the same parent company. The $6.9 billion deal is expected to close by December.
| | Crompton in Hudson | | Worcester craft and antique boutique Crompton Collective draws people like a magnet to the Canal District, and now a second location will attempt to do the same in Hudson. Crompton will open a second location in August on Hudson's Main Street. The new store will be called Haberdash, named after the original mobile store run by Founder Amy Lynn Chase in 2009, which was the precursor to Crompton Collective opening in 2012.
| | Cultural funds to Central Mass. destinations | | Eight destinations in Central Massachusetts, including Old Sturbridge Village and Worcester's EcoTarium, were among those receiving funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Combined, the entities received just under $1 million, including American Antiquarian Society in Worcester receiving $225,000 to help pay for an $18-million renovation, and Apple Tree Arts in Grafton receiving $219,000 for equipment upgrades, including audio and light systems, state curtains, mechanical shade and curtain treatments for the Grafton Town House's performance hall.
