The total daily watch time among U.S. adults on TikTok increased 547% from 2019 to 2023—topping Instagram's 57% growth—but Insider Intelligence says that Instagram has received six times more ad dollars than its rival this year, comparing per hour spent per adult. While TikTok will grow ad dollars with more users, ad products and increased watch time, Instagram will remain the dominant player, propelled by Reels and other capabilities, says Insider Intelligence. GPT-4 scored in the top 1% in terms of the originality of its ideas when pitted against 24 undergraduate students in a creative thinking test undertaken by Erik Guzik, a business professor at the University of Montana. Reduced consumer spending, rising credit card balances and delinquencies, and a slowing labor market might lead to a "softening of the economy" for the rest of 2023, but not a "significant recession," says Matthew Palazzolo, senior investment strategist at Bernstein Private Wealth Management. "We're watching the consumer, since it is a very big driver of the U.S. economy, but we believe those effects are likely to be at the margin," says Sinead Colton Grant, head of BNY Mellon investor solutions, noting that weaker holiday spending "would be a potential warning sign about the strength of the consumer."
