Aqua for All at World Water Day 2016

Creating employment by improving sanitation
The World Water Day event for the Dutch water sector, an initiative of Aqua for All and the Netherlands Water Partnership was held March 24th in The Hague.
For several years already Aqua for All and the Netherlands Water Partnership take the initiative to organize national World Water Day events for the Dutch water sector along with partners. This year over two hundred water stakeholders from private and public sectors, civil society, research and other sectors came together in The Hague   where they joined an interactive afternoon with keynotes, breakout sessions and many opportunities for networking. In one of the sessions Aqua for All, VIA Water, WASTE and Plan Netherlands explored how to create sustainable employment by improving sanitation in developing countries.

Walking for Water 2016

This month marked the 14th annual Walking for Water Campaign where kids help other kids get access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. There were BIG walks in Appinge-dam, Katwijk, Apeldoorn, Gouda and Enschede just to name a few cities!  Around 26.000 school kids from 450 schools  raised an estimated  €1.04m for 25 water & sanitation projects. Perhaps most impressively, Walking for Water has raised over €10m for WASH projects since the campaign started in 2003!  Quite a milestone for Dutch kids (and their Rotary and NGO partners!).

Car wash effluent recycling in Kumasi, GhanaThis month Aqua for All signed the 11th contract in the VIA Water Program. The project is in the preparation stage of a plan to treat the waste water from car wash stations, to improve water efficiency in cities. Recycling treated waste water would prevent the excessive use of drinking water quantities for this purpose, and simultaniously protect downstream surface water from contamination.

12.000 families will benefit in Tanzania

The Heifer International and the Igunga District councel launched an eco-village project at Mwazugi Village in the Igunga District. In the coming four and a half years 12.000 families will benefit from this project. The Tabora regional commissioner, Mr. Aggrey Mwanri, called upon

farmers to actively participate in the scheme whose overall goal is to help in climate change and adaptation. Aqua for All is also involved in this project. We coordinate the input of the 3R partners in this  climate resilience program.

New PPP publication: Business Models in Food and Water PPPs

A new PPPLab publication about Business Models in Food and Water PPPs was published last month. It is an easy to read, mostly graphical presentation of a piece of work Aqua for All undertook last year together with BoPInc and the Rebel Group.
