Liezel van der Westhuizen braved Cape Town’s icy waters for a good cause.
On Thursday, the TV personality geared up and swam from Robben Island to Blouberg to raise funds for the NSRI Safety, Education & Survival Swimming Programme.
In a statement to Channel24, Liezel noted she and 33 other sea rescue volunteers set out on their "tough" adventure early on Thursday morning.
"We went out early with grey, misty conditions. The water was perfectly flat but 12 degrees."
Sharing more about the actual swim, Liezel revealed she had been preparing for 10 weeks. They left Robben Island at around 09:00 in the morning after first having to physically touch the island for their swim to be valid.
"The swim was tough. The boat drops you off about 100m from the island. You have to swim to the island, you touch, and then you swim all the way through."
