n this week’s My Monday Morning column, I admired how candid Bella Hadid was about her mental health challenges. In the story, by WSJ. staff writer Lane Florsheim, she opens up about why she posted photos of herself crying on Instagram at the end of last year “I would have really depressive episodes and my mom or my doctor would ask how I was and instead of having to respond in text, I would just send them a photo. It was the easiest thing for me to do at the time because I was never able to explain how I was feeling,” she says. Doing so made her feel less lonely—a lot of people reached out to say they sometimes felt the same way. Read the full interview below. Hadid also happens to be one of many celebrities whose daily rituals include gratitude journaling. A feature from this week about gratitude practices, which can also include mental lists and meditation, explains why the habit can lead to lower blood pressure, better sleep and increased happiness. (Sign me up!) Plus, from our archives, enjoy a cover story on Oprah, who unsurprisingly has been gratitude journaling since 1996; be sure not to miss Jay McInerney’s insightful profile of Sean Thor Conroe, whose new book Fuccboi is one of this year’s most anticipated debut novels; and, if you’re in the market for the Yeezy Gap collection, check out a guide from my Off Duty colleague Jacob Gallagher, who has a full rundown on the fashion collaboration. Earlier this week, I was saddened to learn of the death of André Leon Talley, the legendary longtime Vogue editor and memoirist. Talley changed the fashion world forever with his inimitable taste, glamour and writing, as well as by making it a more inclusive place. There was truly no one else like him. You can read the Journal's obituary here. Wishing you a safe and restful weekend. |
