A weekly escape into the worlds of fashion, entertainment, design, food, travel, art, architecture and more.
his month’s cover star, Kevin Durant, is unlike any other player in the NBA, a nonconformist who sets the tone for our September Men’s issue, which hits newsstands tomorrow. One of the greatest talents in basketball history, Durant has also been praised by friends and creative partners for his fiercely independent thinking, which led him to keep his own counsel and choose the Brooklyn Nets during this summer’s free agency. He’s not afraid of reinvention, either the physical kind he’s carrying out after rupturing his Achilles during the NBA Finals, or the sort symbolized by changing his number from 35 to 7—a biblical reference to the concept of completion. “I’ve always been on a search,” he says. We can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes him. Don’t miss the revelatory profile of Durant written by J.R. Moehringer, below. Elsewhere in the newsletter, read about David Hockney’s monumental new work and see gorgeous pictures of the artist in his studio in L.A. (he also admits he’s moving back to France so he can smoke cigarettes freely!); check out a roundtable with the cast of Hustlers, a true story about exotic dancers scamming their Wall Street customers that comes out today; and don’t miss our critic’s notebook review of New York Fashion Week. From our archives, I’m excited to share a feature on Stella McCartney, whose birthday is today and whose runway show I’m looking forward to seeing in Paris later this month. Happy weekend! |
