We love the World Cup at WSJ Sports, but I also realize that for many of our readers, "The Game" does not refer to today's U.S.-England match, but rather tomorrow's Michigan-Ohio State clash. It's a rivalry that was one of the greats—until the Buckeyes made it lopsided over the past two decades. The Wolverines need to win in Columbus on Saturday to show they're serious about leveling things up again—but that's not been easy for Michigan to do. One Wolverine who's projecting calm is quarterback J.J. McCarthy. He's the guy meditating under the goal posts before the game. Ohio State is No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings, and Michigan is No. 3. So this game will be high stakes and inescapable. But The Game is not for everyone. Jason Gay says he fled to the World Cup in Qatar to escape The Game. Then again, he's writing about The Game from Qatar. It's inescapable. |

Aaron Judge was spotted in San Francisco this week, a sign that the battle to sign the free agent slugger is officially underway. The Giants, Yankees and others place a high value on what he can do on the field. But the winner of the Judge sweepstakes will also be paying what you might call a fan-satisfaction tax to keep the locals happy and engaged. |
