Xcel Energy to test resilience hubs in three Minneapolis neighborhoods

As the summer of 2022 brings record heat waves, Xcel Energy is building new “resilience hubs” in Minnesota. These hubs will not only serve as heating/cooling stations for residents experiencing outages, they will also be powered by microgrids with solar and storage. Xcel will pay for and own the storage, which the utility will be able to discharge during periods of peak demand on the grid.  

When partnered with Artificial Intelligence technology, battery energy storage systems go beyond simply helping balance the load and maximize self-consumption to providing the intelligence needed to optimize power utilization and predict future maintenance requirements.
