Yanko Design - Form Beyond Function |
Posted: 30 Sep 2016 12:14 PM PDT Who rides horses anymore?? No one. Then why do little kids have to ride wooden ones? I mean, what are we preparing them for?! Nextofkin, or NOK Creatives designed this awesome rocking horse series that gives kids the taste of something slightly more contemporary. Built with amazing detail, comfortable seats, a mock headlight with handlebars, and even adorable little helmets (hey, we need to teach them road etiquette from the start), the NOK Rockin’ Moto is the perfect upgrade to the century old wooden rocking horse design! Posted: 30 Sep 2016 09:00 AM PDT The luxurious Ocean Nebula Hotel concept is located in New Zealand, and is situated on shallow waters a few miles from the main city. The isolated location requires individuals to travel by boat, making the hotel more than just a place to stay but also a spectacular and unique destination. Exotic in both locale and form, it’s a fantastic and enchanting place for a getaway down under! Designer: Victoria Litvin |
Posted: 30 Sep 2016 07:19 AM PDT From coin collectors to travelers, anyone looking to display their rare or commemorative coins or even just random change from different countries should look no further! Numizmatus replaces dusty stockbooks and helps proudly display coin collections. The minimal frame beautifully presents coins between two glass panes. It’s easy to create a pattern by throwing in coins in a specific way. Numizmatus can supplement pictures and postcards from faraway countries. Want to mix it up?! Coins can be easily taken out without breaking the glass. Designer: Art Lebedev Studio |
Posted: 30 Sep 2016 06:55 AM PDT This new-generation outdoor tent is a nature-interactive and energy-independent tent with two main parts: the Solar-Air Tube system that generates electricity from sunlight and creates airflow throughout the tent; and the Sound Drum which captures sounds to allow users to interact with nature even when they’re inside the tent! The Solar-Air Tube has a dual-layer structure that enables it to generate solar-powered electricity from one layer and ventilate air from the other layer at the same time. There is a fan at each end of the tube and natural airflow mechanism is employed. Thus, during winter, the air ventilation system keeps the tent interior warm. During summer, the upper fan absorbs and blows out the hot air from the tent to keep it cool. The Sound Drum captures sounds such as raindrops, wind, birds, bugs and more. It consists of two symmetric funnels connected together. The exterior funnel is placed outside the tent to capture the sounds of nature while the interior funnel channels the sounds into the tent. These components of the Sound Drum can be operated using electricity generated by the organic solar cell on the outer funnel. This design is a 2015 Red Dot Award winner. Posted: 30 Sep 2016 01:53 AM PDT Nothing will kill a beautiful white wall faster than a TV set! That’s where video projectors can be an interior design lifesaver. Still, the large projectors on the market can also be a bit of an eyesore on the opposite part of the room. Void is a pint-sized projector that explores a reduction in size without sacrificing power. By changing the outer shell and exposing some parts of the projector, a small footprint and slimmer profile are achieved. Thanks to a specialized spin feature, the ceiling-mounted design can illuminate vertical walls in any direction and adjust to accommodate for varying distances. Designer: Hsin-yu Tsaih |
Posted: 29 Sep 2016 03:00 PM PDT The O Mousepad probably has a reason behind its name. My reason, however, is that it’s named so because it makes me go “Oh, so cool!”. The idea is simple, and production is even simpler. Just stick strips of Velcro on the sides and you’re done! Roll up the mousepad when you feel wrist fatigue and you’ve got yourself a makeshift, but pretty comfortable hand-rest! The O Mousepad is a winner of the Red Dot Design Award for the year 2015. Posted: 29 Sep 2016 01:00 PM PDT This Beosound Wireless Speaker concept looks like it’s waiting to be cast in a SciFi movie, but no, it isn’t a UFO. It’s a pretty neat hi-end audio speaker with a cut-out in the center that spews beautifully delicious tunes in a 360° radius. The Insides show a massive all-in-one driver with a great deal of circuitry, hinting at its digital audio prowess. The outsides, however make the speaker look like it’s speeding faster than the speed of sound! Designer: Myeonghoon Lee |
