This seemingly unsuspecting boomerang-ish piece of wood and metal is in fact a full fledged gym in itself! The Yoak (wonder why it’s named so) is an incredibly versatile arc shaped tool that allows you to perform your entire workout using just a single piece of equipment. The Yoak adapts itself to multiple workout modes (Bar, Suspension, Squat and Parallettes) allowing users to fulfill a wide range of exercises. The Yoak is great for converting any area into a fitness zone. Its wood construction makes it easy to carry around while the metal armature on the inside gives it incredible load-bearing abilities. The Yoak comes with a small yet extensive kit of add-ons that give it its versatile nature.

This Lamp’s All Touchy-Feely!

We’ve lots all physical connection with our lights! Whether it’s from a button, switch, or a smartphone, we’re remotely controlling the light whereas before people had to touch it. ELVIS is an ambient light that introduces an entirely new (old) way of interacting with lights, emphasizing on this feeling of touch.

Ambient lights themselves are tasked with stimulating mood – they are as personal as lights will get to humans. ELVIS aims to build on this personal interaction and provides a multi sensory ambient experience by creating a new user-product relationship developed through touching and sliding the light itself. The brightness of the light can be adjusted by sliding the front panel up or down. Maximum brightness can makes ELVIS a reading light whereas minimum brightness will make it a night lamp. The front panel is housed with a soft fabric to further enhance the feeling of touch.

Your entire posture is affected by them, and they should be given much more consideration than from a strictly fashion perspective.

A Savior at Sea

Multiple drownings occur every year due to man overboard situations…but with all the advancements in safety equipment, why is this till happening? Designer Corban Warrington’s findings revealed that time, poor visuals, human error and hypothermia were the leading contributors. His solution, the Guardian, addresses each of these issues in an effort to prevent drownings and save lives at sea.

The deflated raft is vacuum packed inside a capsule conveniently located at the back of the boat where t’s unobtrusive to the crew and easily accessible. In the event of a man overboard, a crew member may pull the pin of the capsule to release it using a compression spring, instantly deploying the raft into the water where it will self-inflate using a salt water activation system.

The raft has an elevated beacon that houses a water activated LED strobe light and Automatic Identification System (AIS) that allows crew members to know where the MOB is at all times. The elevated beacon houses LED strips that can be seen from 360 degrees all around. These ultra-bright LEDs flash a bright strobe light to allow for the raft to be visible in all weather conditions and especially at night.

Once the device has inflated and the victim has located the raft, they can climb inside where their body will stay elevated out of the water, reducing their energy exertion and preventing hypothermia while providing extra survival time. Additionally, the Guardian houses a thermal space blanket to increase the victims body temperature when needed. All these features combined, those at sea can rest assure they have the best possible chance of survival.

A home that restores faith in humanity

Most design schools make it mandatory for a student to do at least one project that revolves around disaster aversion and management. There are a lot of projects out there that explore the concept of a temporary disaster-relief shelter for victims and refugees. The temporary housing project by Maja Jandrić however arrives at the same end result (of providing a place to stay), but offers a different and more beautiful process.

The housing kit comes in segments that can be pieced together by the refugees themselves. Rather than opting for a design that requires heavy machinery, construction equipment, or experts, the housing system comes as a set of flat panels, furniture, and drapes. The houses are then assembled by the refugees together, allowing them to work together as a community and therefore instill a sense of harmony and a kindred spirit. Each housing unit is modular, allowing you to create grids, or neighborhoods of houses. The houses also provide curtains for walls, entitling you to your personal space when you need it, or allowing you to make your house a part of a mini, open community when you choose.
