CKIE Product of the week – Diagram 17 Watch

Posted: 15 Feb 2017 12:01 PM PST

diagram17_1

The Diagram 17 watch doesn’t just tell the time, it tells a story too with its Suprematist art inspired watch dial. Taking elements from Kandinsky’s Diagram 17 painting, the watch has a simple dial with rather quirky yet well composed hands. Oddly enough, the thick short hand denotes the seconds, while three lines in the background (that some may mistake for artwork) actually rotate around the watch’s face, pointing out the hours. The minutes hand has its own charm too.

The beauty of the Diagram 17 watch is that no matter where the hands are placed, the composition looks pleasing. Each second of the day transforms into an abstract artpiece that behind aesthetics, hides the time of the day. Nice, isn’t it?!

A Variation on Illumination

Posted: 15 Feb 2017 08:34 AM PST

lyrea_00

With just one easy gesture, the Lyrea lamp makes it possible to get exactly the type of glow you need! Its simplistic yet innovative construction makes it possible to change from soft, indirect light to direct light with a simple gesture. Inside the partially frosted blown glass, a copper leaf turns around a LED light bulb hidden in the aluminium body. By sliding the handle around, you can adjust the quantity of direct light or have it spread out.

The Vapure Steam Washer is a small, yet powerful steam washer designed especially for the kitchen. Sized to fit the most compact of spaces, it eliminates the need for bulky under-counter washers and even dishwashing liquids. Instead, it takes up only a slight amount of counter real estate, can be mounted on the wall, and even carried around the kitchen!

Out of This World Coffee

What if NASA made a coffee maker? This stellar concept called Dot/Dot explores this very question! Applying the design language of the aeronautic giant, this coffee pod machine takes on a never before seen aesthetic that caffeine cravers and space enthusiasts alike will appreciate.

The look of the machine is a mix of planetary and rocket-like, but what really stands out are the pods themselves! They’re perfectly spherical unlike the common cup versions, and modeled after the planets, making them fun and interesting to interact with!

The no-tug plug

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 04:02 PM PST

Over the past five years we’ve reinvented the USB, the MicroUSB, we’ve bettered the lightning connector, the thunderbolt connector. However, for decades, our stupid socket plug has been the same. It still differs from country to country, and more importantly, it’s still an absolute nightmare to pull the plug out of the socket without a good grip. We’ve seen countless concepts solve the problem on Yanko Design, so much so that we have an exhaustive bank of design ideas solving the same problem differently. Here’s one more for the collection!

The Safeplug is actually pretty easy to implement, given that it doesn’t change plug-socket standards. In fact, its design detail can be implemented on virtually any type of plug to make them easily retractable. The plug design comes in two broad parts. An outer sleeve with retraction flaps, and the inner plug component that slides back and forth. Lift the flaps up and the plug slides inwards, like a turtle into a shell, pulling itself out of the socket with absolute ease!

The 3-wheeled Chopper

“Two wheels good. Three wheels better?” asks designer Olcay Tuncay, rhetorically speaking. I personally feel that the Nasty T-Trike looks stunning even in black and white! Halfway between a regular lowrider and a quad bike, the Nasty T-Trike has the power of a trike, with the swag of a chopper. Plus, how good would the wheelies on this thing be?!
