Yanko Design - Form Beyond Function |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 11:06 AM PST While it’s hard not to love the functionality of a smartwatch, many people just can’t get down with the techy look of wearing one! For the fashion-conscious wearer, there’s the Coalesce C_001. It fuses the time-tested style of analog timepieces with the smart tech of today’s modern wearables. The pristine face is kept beneath a sapphire crystal glass dome, however, it’s not touch-sensitive. The idea is that the less contact the wearer has with it, the longer it will last. I’ve broken my phone enough times to know this is true! Instead, the crown serves as the primary interface. Similar to a classic watch, users can access and control a myriad of features by pressing, spinning or tapping. The display screen itself is quite straightforward, keeping the watch face minimalistic and dapper. The face and hour/minute hands can also be color coordinated to match or contrast with a variety of leather bands in different hues. Collect them all to adapt your smartwatch to your changing outfits! Designer: Alexander Shayle |
Bicycle Suspension of the Near Future Posted: 25 Jan 2018 09:00 AM PST If the Furia bicycles fearsome form looks familiar, that’s because you’ve definitely seen it before… only, not in a bicycle! It’s one of the first to utilize motorcycle-inspired hub-center steering. Rather than above the wheel, the pivot points are located in the wheel hub, allowing the steering, braking, and suspension functions to be separate. This results in a smoother more controlled ride, especially over bumps and road irregularities. Shocks are immediately absorbed by the suspension with minimal transfer to the rest of the bike. This also assists with rider endurance. Combining carbon fiber composite and 3D printing, it’s unmatched in lightness, strength and performance. Designer: Francesco Manocchio |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 08:16 AM PST Flou is an interaction-based audio system that allows you to seamlessly transition from one listening device to the next so your tunes never go interrupted! Let’s say you’re coming home from a jog and are listening to a great song that you don’t want to miss on your earbuds. Simply place the buds on the Flou deck and it will instantly transition the song from your headphones to the Flou speaker without missing a beat! The deck also provides visual playback information on its touchscreen surface. The earbuds actually work as controllers for a variety of functions from choosing input sources to volume, depending on where they’re placed or how they move on the surface. Designer: Hoon Yoon |
The Clock that Trades Hands for Hoops! Posted: 25 Jan 2018 05:27 AM PST There’s something celestial about the Orbits clock. What it simply does is trades the conventional hands for hoops, but the result looks kinda out of this world. Each hoop, designed to fit within one another, rotates on the same axis, but the overall effect looks so absolutely magical when observed by the viewer! The hands come made of carbon fiber tubes, allowing them to be so light that the hoops no matter how large don’t sag under the weight as they cantilever outwards. The hoops, however, have 24K gold tubing on them that act as indicators, allowing you to read the time against the black face of the clock. The Orbits clock is best kept on a wall that has a good deal of empty space around it. It’s best to mount the clock at a height slightly above the average human height, so you don’t end up walking into it, given its elaborately 3D nature. Chances are that you probably won’t because the clock is so incredibly eye-catching, you or your guests won’t want to stop looking at it! Designer: Shay Carmon |

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:00 PM PST Infiniti is always surprising us with features we can’t even see! And let me tell you this, the Infiniti Q Inspiration is doing exactly that – hiding the world’s first ever production ready four-cylinder variable compression ratio engine under the hood of what can easily be seen as a futuristic concept. It may look like a futuristic concept, and it should because they have just entered the future with the Q Inspiration. Coming complete with an AI/semi-autonomous feature, the Infiniti Q Inspiration has a ProPilot assistant who helps with menial tasks like sitting in traffic or parking. So it’s super smart and super-efficient, it’s also super attractive. The Q Inspiration is inspirational – the rear of this vehicle just oozes a type of class rarely seen with futuristic cars, it’s keeping the mix of curvaceous and organic shape while the lights bring a more futuristic dynamic to tie it all together. This is a gorgeous car, and one can only hope it gets the recognition it most certainly deserves. Designer: Infiniti |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:00 PM PST As flashy (literally) as they may look, the Power Spurz were designed to be a signal of sorts, letting you be visible to people nearby as you walked, jogged, trekked, or cycled around. Made to be taillights that you wear on your shoes, the Spurz let people from a distance see you, which works rather well if you’re on your own, jogging or cycling down the road in the dark and you’ve got a vehicle speeding towards you, saving you a potential ‘deer-in-the-headlights’ moment. Made to bend around your heel and fit onto any shoe of any size, the Spurz come in a wide variety of colors and can be configured to either flash a steady light or blink continuously. With a run time of 70 hours when on steady light and 100 when blinking, the Spurz will need a battery replacement probably once every 3 months. They’re even designed to be absolutely weatherproof, so whether you’re out in the sun, rain, snow, you know you’re visible, and literally ‘marked’ safe! Designer: 4id |
