Dear John As yoga is a lifelong practice it’s inevitable that, at some point along the road, we will all need to shape and adapt our practice around illnesses and injuries. While this can bring up frustration and other negative emotions, the yoga concept of Ahimsa (non-violence or non-harming) reminds us to respect our boundaries and listen to our bodies to keep our practice sustainable, and in the process really learn about ourselves. As Laia Bové says in her article below: “Having a chronic illness has given me insight to the fluid and ever-changing nature of life, to the ultimate truth that change is the only constant. Practicing yoga and meditation is, in my humble opinion, an excellent way to cultivate resilience, awareness, and calm, no matter what goes on in my body, my life, or the world around me.” Respect your boundaries.
