We can all agree that 2020 was, to quote Dickens, “the worst of times.” But here at Litquake, we also found ourselves continually surprised and gratified to witness how the worst of times can lead to great new ideas.
After 20 years of live events we reinvented our programming and presented 250 authors in 93 virtual events, reaching more than 18,000 diverse viewers. Why did we double down on our mission during a pandemic? Because the written word and the power of storytelling are more critical than ever to combat isolation, celebrate the positive, and bring us together.
How were we able to pivot so quickly? It was thanks to you, our friends and supporters—all who opened your hearts to see us through this unprecedented time with grace and passion. Now, as we look towards another challenging year, Litquake needs your help once more.
With your help, we can continue to expand our community-based programming, including Litquake Out Loud, championing local BIPOC writers, and the Elder Project, which brings writing teachers into Bay Area senior facilities. Despite the challenges of 2020, Litquake energetically embraced the future and offered greater access and connectivity than ever before.
Our increasingly diverse audience also celebrated, finding solace, inspiration, distraction, and the deeper answers that can only come from literature.
Will you help us keep bringing connection, engagement and inspiration to our community?
