You don’t need to be in a laboratory . . .

As a loyal CANSA supporter, you take part in cancer research programmes without having to wear a white coat or be hunched over a microscope in a laboratory.

And that’s why I’m inviting you to join a circle of our most valued friends, our Research Partners, by sending your membership gift today.

If you consider the number of parts that make up the intricate design of our bodies, you’ll have an idea of how many different kinds of cancer there can be. This makes the field of cancer research enormous, and ever evolving.

But one of the fields that applies to all types of cancer is that of ‘awareness’ and its connection to early detection which is vital to successful treatment.

With grateful thanks to our Research Partners, we were able to fund Professor Jennifer Moodley’s research on the impact of awareness on women’s pathway to breast cancer diagnosis and care. You can read about this on our website, and a booklet on Professor Moodley’s findings is now available to the public.

Research and its outcomes take time and money. Which is why your ongoing support of CANSA research is so important in leading on to the saving of lives.

Someone who stresses the extreme importance of awareness is Jessica Shames. A lovely young woman on the threshold of her adult life, and starting university studies away from home. But she’s also living with the diagnosis of a type of cancer very rare for someone her age.

One of the aspects of a cancer diagnosis that Jessica speaks about is the loneliness that cancer patients experience, even when surrounded by the love and support of family and friends.

It’s the medical support that brings the most comfort, hope and confidence.

The comfort, hope and confidence that on any day a researcher could make a crucial breakthrough which will change some aspect of the cancer pathway forever.
