Legislative events are filling up fast! Register today! January 27th at 3pm: Legislative Process & Committee WorkshopLearn how the legislative process works with a focus on the committee process. This workshop will provide the foundation for how we can influence legislation. All are welcome; a focus is on those who are newer to our legislature, but all can benefit from a refresher! February 1st at 4pm: Bill Analysis WorkshopDive deep into a specific piece of legislation. Understand how to read through bills; we will focus on a case study. This will provide an opportunity to understand how a bill may or may not become a law. February 17th at 12pm: Building Power Through Lobbying & Grassroots EffortsBecome more experienced on how to lobby for critical legislation and build broad support. This workshop will take us from influencing legislators in the halls of the State house to mobilizing the public across the State. March 1st at 4pm: Relationship Building With Decision Makers WorkshopLearn the finer points of influencing legislators. March 15th at 12pm: Coalition Building WorkshopGather to discuss how partnering organizations and community leaders can work together on important policy. Individual groups cannot do it all alone. March 29th at 8:30am: Letter to the Editor & Op-Ed TrainingJoin us for a workshop on how to write effectively to support issues that are important to you. Outings Leadership Learn about the expectations and requirements of becoming an official Sierra Club Maine Outings Leader. This 3-part training series leads to completion of Outdoor Leadership Training (OLT-101), a requirement to become an official leader. February 2nd at 12pm: Maine Supports the Clean Energy AcceleratorDavid Gibson, Sierra Club Maine Executive Committee and Energy Team member, ReVision Energy staff, will speak about the movement to organize a Maine Clean Energy Accelerator (Green Bank) citing that the biggest barrier to the implementation of clean energy projects and other climate solutions is the upfront cost. The Maine Accelerator will use public funds to leverage private capital for renewable energy and climate adaptation. February 9th at 12pm: Poems for a World on Fire with Author Helen RousseauPublished author, artist, and creative leader Helen Rousseau joins us to discuss her most recent publication, "Poems for a World on Fire." These poems give voice to the earth, its peoples, animals, trees, seas, land, and all that makes this planet uniquely our home. February 23rd at 12pm: Consumer Owned Utility with John BrautigamFormer State Representative and Assistant Attorney General John Brautigam will explain why Maine must make the transition to a Consumer Owned Utility to achieve ambitious climate goals. March 2nd at 12pm: A Climate to ThriveWhat if all Maine schools went 100% solar? Members of A Climate to Thrive and MDIHS ECO Team join us to discuss their step-by-step process of how to get your school to go 100% solar. March 9th at 12pm: New England Aqua Ventus Offshore Wind ProjectNew England Aqua Ventus will share their project with the University of Maine to create an up to 12 MW floating offshore wind pilot project to develop a renewable energy source off Maine’s shores.
