Dear Supporter, It’s been almost two weeks since earthquakes devastated Türkiye and Syria, killing more than 40,000 people and displacing millions.
Thank you to everyone who has given so generously since then to support UNHCR’s emergency response in both countries. Our humanitarian airlifts and convoys are now arriving in Türkiye with tents, thermal blankets and other relief items, while aid distribution is continuing in five provinces in Syria.
This life-saving assistance is reaching people like Aziza and her son, who were asleep at home in Aleppo when disaster struck. They fled with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
“Feeling the big shake, I jumped out of bed, but I kept stumbling each time I tried to stand up,” Aziza said. “Parts of the concrete roof started falling on my head. I grabbed my son and ran out to the street. In the morning, I tried to return to my house but I was so afraid. I just shut the door and ran away .”
Aziza and her son are now staying with relatives in rural Hama, sharing a house with three other families. Your gifts are providing mattresses, hygiene kits and other emergency supplies for survivors like her in Syria and Türkiye, helping them meet their immediate needs.
In Türkiye, UNHCR has supported the national response by:
Providing 11,000 tents and almost 4,000 thermal blankets
Dispatching 30,000 sleeping bags and almost 30,000 camp beds
Providing 10,000 hygiene kits, 6,500 kitchen sets and 5,000 solar lamps
In Syria, UNHCR has:
Provided 25,700 relief items such as thermal blankets and kitchen sets
Provided 17,800 winter jackets and 7,900 winter clothing kits
Assisted 57,000 people with protection services
Supporter, thank you again for your generosity. We are sending more aid as quickly as possible and, with your support, can help families through this crisis.
