Distant, but close, it's the Bologna Children's Book Fair Online Edition!
|
|
For 57 years the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy has been THE event in the children’s publishing industry. Over 1,400 exhibitors and around 30,000 professional visitors flock to the event each spring to experience the world of children’s books, illustration and multimedia content. This year the fair moved to a special online edition with webinars, book trailers, videos, conferences, and award ceremonies. It's just wrapped up but the good news is that much of the content is now accessible to the public via the Events Program. |

Liniers started his artistic career making fanzines for his friends when he realized he was not made for law school. His U.S. debut with TOON, The Big Wet Balloon, was selected as one of Parents Magazine’s top ten and TOON's Good Night, Planet earned him an Eisner Award for Best Early Reader. Liniers is from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is the creator of the daily strip Macanudo, which has been published by La Nación since 2002. He now lives in Vermont as the artist-in-residence at the Center for Cartoon Studies with his wife and three young daughters. |

About the Award:
Since 1966, the BolognaRagazzi Award has been among the world's most highly regarded international prizes in the sector of children’s publishing. Aimed at selecting the finest illustrated children's books, the award honors the best productions in terms of their graphic and editorial qualities, becoming a leading international launch pad for authors and illustrators thanks to the high profile recognition that the winners receive during the fair.

From the Bologna Jury: “The jury was charmed by Liniers celebration of imagination and the creative process as depicted through the vivid drawings and wildly inventive stories of Henrietta, a young girl with a brand new box of colored pencils. Liniers draws Henrietta in a series of subdued comic sequences on pages that are very quickly high-jacked by the extravagant, colorful, crazed energy of Henrietta’s childlike pencil drawings, which she uses to tell the story of a three headed monster with only two hats, and the wildly funny search for the missing hat inside her apparently huge wardrobe."

Italy, Vermont and Connecticut merged their efforts to produce this very entertaining conversation between Emilio Varrà (of the 2020 Virtual Bologna Book Fair), Liniers, and TOON's Editorial Director, Françoise Mouly. |
