A supplier sent us a sample--an orange cream flavor. It was a colored flavor. I had never seen a flavor with the color added. So one Saturday, we made cupcakes for folks in the store, vanilla orange cream cupcakes with Bavarian cream centers.
The good folks in the store got mad at me! Oh, they loved the cupcakes. They were spot on like the orange cream ice cream treats we used to eat. They wanted the flavor/color so they could go home and make them.
Both of these cupcakes are frosted with whipped cream frosting--much, much better than buttercream. It's simply flavored whipped cream with meringue powder added as a stabilizer.
