Hello, my pretties. Listen up. Closely. I'm Eugene S. Robinson, host of OZY’s newest podcast, and the stunning present reality is? You're here with ME now. Largely on account of me having infiltrated your inbox unbeknownst to the brass, who, if my timing is spot on, are still trying to figure out how managing editor Fay Schlesinger's new pic could possibly be such a massive improvement over the old one. Truth be told, I don't belong here. I belong where I usually am: out in the real world as OZY’s editor-at-large, down in the sticky and smelly and spirited underground, touching and tasting and seeing and doing. In my day job, I reach out to the world’s dirtiest and most riveting people, telling their tales of jubilation and woe, the passionate, the violent, for the True Stories I edit. Reading me doesn't really work. I read you. So when the powers that be asked me to make a podcast, I laughed. Most sound like macramé, at least to me — the knowing and measured tones, the politesse and, ultimately, the completely predictable audio experience that will impress exactly one category of people: those who are already listening. A confederacy of faux cool and in the end? Nodcasts... Well, this is not like that. We are nothing like that. I told them I would do it one way and one way only: my way. So welcome to OZY CONFIDENTIAL. While the rest of the free world has to wait until tomorrow, you can be the first to hear it today, exclusively on Himalaya. |
