While I'm sad I won't get to see The Hold Steady, Stormzy, Endless Boogie, Maya Jane Coles or Fontaines D.C. any time soon, that's really not the issue here.
Tour managers, sound engineers, techs, drivers, promoters, lighting operators, publicists, runners, accountants, assistants…
These are just some of the people you don't see when you go to a gig. People who are left without work until things get back to normal.
It's about more than money – no one goes into music to get rich – this is what they live for. For better or worse, their identities are interlaced with what they do for a living.
Gigs are slowly coming back. The NSW Government has
pledged to make 1,000 of them happen in November. Please support them where you can. But it's not until international touring restarts that many will resume employment and resume their lives.
If you have money to donate, or if you work music industry and it's all just starting to get to be too much,
Support Act is there.
