Red Lake Nation nurse Charmaine Branchaud honored for improved immunization rates

Branchaud says the work to improve Red Lake School District’s immunization rates began as she sifted through paper records. The data allowed her to understand student health needs. 

“Seeing people helping people. And then I thought, well, maybe you know, that’s something I could do when I get older, “she said, “And I held on to that dream.”

What's next for churches dropped from their denomination for supporting LGBTQ+ rights? This summer, an evangelical church in Minnesota was kicked out of its denomination because of the congregation’s support of same sex marriage — and it likely won’t be the last. MPR News reporter Jacob Aloi joined MPR News host Cathy Wurzer with details on the story.

Maui County sues Hawaiian Electric Company for damages from disastrous fires. The exact cause of the fires in Maui is being investigated by federal officials. But dozens of Hawaiian Electric's poles and energized lines were felled by high winds that propelled the fire.

These poems by Latin American women reflect a multilingual region. Sandra Guzmán once heard an alarming statistic: Every 14 days, an Indigenous language dies around the world. So she created a new multilingual project centered on Latin American women.
