🎧   For years, Minnesota lawmakers have been working to legalize marijuana. The latest bill is still up for debate, but can a small DFL majority make it happen or will this bill go up in smoke? Coming up Friday at noon, MPR News host Mike Mulcahy talks to Rep. Zack Stephenson, DFL-Coon Rapids, about the movement to legalize marijuana. And we’ll also hear from Rep. Kristin Robbins, R-Maple Grove, on why she’s one of the lawmakers speaking out against legalizing adult-use cannabis.

Colorful Weddings is reimagining ceremonies, wedding industry representation

Spring is approaching and that means wedding season is not far behind. While planning a wedding can be a challenge for some couples, for many Black, Indigenous and people of color in Minnesota, finding venues and vendors to meet their families’ needs can be even harder. But one local business is helping to change that.

Colorful Weddings connects couples to businesses owned by people of color who specialize in catering to cultural weddings and celebrations.
 
What else we're watching:
The latest: Xcel says radioactive water leaked in November at Monticello nuclear plant. Xcel said it reported the tritium leak to state and federal regulators, but the company and the MPCA have not yet said why the leak wasn't disclosed to the public until more than three months later.

North Dakota high court upholds injunction against abortion ban. The Red River Women’s Clinic — the state’s only abortion clinic — shut its doors this summer and moved operations a short distance from Fargo to Moorhead, Minnesota, where abortion remains legal. But the clinic’s owner is still pursuing the lawsuit.

Mayor Frey says city has improved emergency response since Floyd murder. Vowing that Minneapolis will be ready “the next time something goes down,” Mayor Jacob Frey trumpeted the progress he said city departments have made to address deficiencies in their response to civil unrest since George Floyd was murdered by a police officer in 2020.  

Minnesota officer files lawsuit after being bitten by K-9.  The rare officer-to-officer lawsuit comes amid growing concerns with police K-9 deployments.
