From insurgent to insider, Minnesota’s Emmer eyes next move

The rabble-rousing state lawmaker turned party insider could land a promotion to House majority leader amid other GOP shuffling, but insurgents in his party could stand in his way.

As a new state lawmaker almost two decades ago, Tom Emmer developed a reputation in Minnesota’s Capitol as a firebrand and party insurgent who could make life tough for top Republicans.

 
Minnesota Native reading project teaches 'present tense' of Indigenous lives

A book that tells the stories of the Upper Sioux Community may help students across the state learn more about Indigenous communities in Minnesota. Another tribal nation, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, is providing the books for free.

“Our number one goal is narrative change,” said Odai Wood-Krueger, a former teacher who consults on education projects nationally. She wanted teachers to think about relationships with Indigenous neighbors and “understand and rebuild.”
