After surviving heart attack, Angela Conley seeks to raise risk awareness among Black women

Hennepin County Commissioner Angela Conley survived a heart attack at just 45 years old and wants to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, which affects a disproportionately high number of Black women. 

According to the CDC, nearly half of all Americans have at least one of the three key risk factors of heart disease — smoking, high cholesterol or high blood pressure. In Hennepin County, 1 in 3 Black and Native American residents have high blood pressure compared to 1 in 4 white residents, according to the county public health department.
 
Minnesota GOP pivots, pushes for early voting this cycle

State and national GOP leaders are working to convince right-leaning voters to cast ballots early in the off-year election, which some see as a warmup for larger contests in 2024.

A Gallup survey last year found a significant partisan split in voters’ interest in early or absentee voting. While Republicans and Democrats reported nearly identical levels of interest historically, progressive voters’ interest in voting before Election Day has surged compared to conservatives.
