Memorial honors 39 Minnesotans killed by intimate partner violence in 2023. They were from small towns and big cities. They were just a few days old to 77 years old. Rich, poor. Black, white. Gay, straight. All of them killed in an act of domestic violence. Violence Free Minnesota, which put on the memorial event, is working to end relationship violence.
George Morrison’s legacy honored by new Indigenous arts center at the U of M. Gichigami, or Lake Superior, is prominently featured in much of Morrison’s artwork. Art Shanty Projects closes due to warm weather. Six days after opening on the ice of Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, and after receiving 10,000 visitors, the Art Shanty Projects is shutting down. Recent forecasts of above-freezing temperatures as high as 50 degrees prompted the decision by the organization to close early.
