A winter storm warning is in effect for northwest Minnesota. A light coating of snow is likely in the Twin Cities metro area and most of southern Minnesota late Tuesday afternoon. Accumulations should be an inch or less. Get the latest weather news on Updraft.

Minnesota photographer finds more civility than division in ‘Purpletown’ project

Since the 2020 election, photographer Paul Shambroom has mapped and photographed what he calls “purple towns” — communities where votes for presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump were statistically tied. Even though these communities are evenly divided politically, Shambroom says civility is often high.

“I think if people live in a community that is really split down the middle, they’re probably more civil to each other. You know, these people may go to church together, their kids go to school together, they shop in the same stores, and I think they behave differently than people who live in a bubble,” he said.
 
Spring in February: Temperatures soar across southern Minnesota

Temperatures soared into the 60s and even a few 70s across much of southern Minnesota on Monday — a springlike start to what’s shaping up to be a wild weather week across the state.

It was the first day in the 60s in the Twin Cities since mid-November, prompting many people to get out and enjoy the warmth.
 
As the Cowles Center closes, local dancers reflect on its impact

The Cowles Center, a key venue for dance and performing arts in the Twin Cities, is set to close on March 31 due to financial difficulties. This decision has deeply affected the local dance community.

“I think that the community is definitely heartbroken at the loss of our dance center,” said Aparna Ramaswamy, executive director of Ragamala Dance Company.
 
What else we're watching:

Nikki Haley tells Minnesota crowd it's time for a new direction in White House race. Speaking to a crowd of several hundred people in a hotel ballroom in Bloomington, Haley said a rematch between Trump and Democratic President Joe Biden is one much of the nation dreads.

Michigan Democrats and Republicans wrap up their presidential primaries today. Both President Biden and former President Donald Trump are vying for their party's delegates. Neither contest is expected to be competitive even though the state will be key in the general election.

Biden says there could be a cease-fire in Gaza by Monday. Talks are still ongoing. Negotiators have been trying to reach a deal on a temporary cease-fire to to move hostages held in Gaza out of the territory. President Biden says he's optimistic the cease-fire could begin in a week. 

A smuggling arrest is made, 2 years after family froze to death on the Canadian border. A man accused of recruiting the driver in a human smuggling operation has been arrested, more than two years after a family of four from India froze to death trying to enter the U.S. from Canada, authorities said.

Minnesota United finalizes hiring of head coach Eric Ramsay, former Manchester United assistant. Minnesota United finalized the hiring of head coach Eric Ramsay on Monday, one game into the MLS regular season after the unusually drawn-out process of replacing Adrian Heath.

Twins acquire outfielder Manuel Margot in 3-player trade with Dodgers, who add Kiké Hernández. Margot made his major league debut with San Diego in 2016. In 788 career games, he's batted .255 with a .694 OPS, 52 home runs and 91 stolen bases.
