Coming up on Morning Edition: You know that old cell phone or computer you've been meaning to recycle that's sitting in a drawer, or collecting dust in the basement? Only about 20 percent of electronic waste gets recycled. A lot of it ends up in the trash -- where it's an environmental problem, a fire hazard -- and a waste of valuable resources. A bill at the Legislature aims to expand e-waste recycling in Minnesota -- and make it free.

Coming up at 9 a.m. Angela Davis talks with a researcher and a financial therapist about why so many couples fight over finances and how to resolve the inevitable disagreements.
 
Red Lake Nation goes on a sales trip to India to discuss trade, walleye and wild rice

Bill seeks to increase electronics recycling in Minnesota, and make it free

A proposed bill would update Minnesota’s 17-year-old electronics waste law to include all e-waste, and make recycling electronics free for all Minnesotans. Supporters say it would help keep electronics out of the waste stream, where they pose an environmental and fire risk and waste valuable materials.

Jury selection set to start in first Feeding Our Future trial The trial focuses on several of the people accused of taking part in a $250 million scheme to defraud government child nutrition programs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ramsey and Washington counties launch innovative food scrap recycling program. A pioneering food scrap recycling program is being expanded to selected communities within Ramsey and Washington counties, providing residents with a solution to recycle their food waste.

House approves sell-or-be-banned TikTok measure, attaching it to foreign aid bill. The bill, now advancing to the Senate, represents the most serious threat yet to the video app used by half of Americans.

Women of color still lag behind in STEM jobs, despite efforts to change. Amid longstanding efforts to increase diversity in these fields, and as STEM jobs are expected to rise in the coming years, women of color remain underrepresented and underpaid in the STEM workforce, according to a Pew Research Center study.

New guidelines aim to make melatonin safer for kids. The voluntary industry guidelines come amid a dramatic rise in accidental pediatric ingestions of melatonin. At the same time, more and more kids are using melatonin on purpose as a sleep aid.
