Several events were held this weekend to remember Floyd, a now annual tradition in Minneapolis. A coalition of activist organizations held a solidarity rally on the corner of Lake Street and Chicago Avenue. They were joined by Floyd’s relatives as well as the family of Calvin Horton Jr., who was shot and killed by a pawn shop owner during the unrest that followed the death of George Floyd.
Many activists say Minnesota hasn’t done enough.
“After the murder of George Floyd, we had the murder of Daunte Wright,” said Trahern Crews, founder of Black Lives Matter Minnesota. “After the murder of George Floyd, we had the murder of Amir Locke. We had the murder of Tekle Sundberg. And there still has not been any justice in any of those cases.”
A Memorial Day service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery paid extra tribute to World War II veterans Monday, as the 80th anniversary of D-Day approaches in June — and as the state continues to lose veterans who fought at that time.
Several hundred gathered beneath the drizzly rain, including U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Gov. Tim Walz, who served in the Army National Guard for more than two decades. Walz referred to the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, in which 2,501 Americans died.
“Next week will mark, more than likely, one of the final times the world leaders will gather where there will be those who fought on those beaches present,” Walz said. “It becomes now more important than ever that we the living remember those sacrifices, remember those heroes. Our job is to [not just] remember the names, but to remember what they fought for.”
Before Sunday’s Professional Women’s Hockey League game between Minnesota and Boston at Xcel Energy Center, Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” rang out from the speakers.

Minnesota lost in double overtime to Boston and will now head to Game 5 of the PWHL finals. The series is tied 2-2. Even with the recent loss, fans continue to have high hopes ahead of the final game Wednesday that Minnesota can still earn the title.
“It’s just all great. I can’t believe Minnesota, I can’t believe girls are in the PWHL here,” 8-year-old Ava Evans said. “When I grow up, I really want to play for the PWHL.”
🚓 Two correctional officers sustain minor injuries after assault by two inmates at Minnesota prison. An inmate at the Stillwater prison assaulted a correctional officer on Saturday morning. The department said a second officer intervened and was then assaulted by a second inmate.
🏀 Kayla McBride scores 31 points to lead Minnesota Lynx to 92-79 win over Dream. McBride made her first nine shots and finished 10 of 12 overall and 6 of 7 from 3-point range, including three in the third quarter when the Lynx stretched a three-point halftime lead to 77-59 behind her 11 points.
⚾ Twins take opener from Royals 6-5 with strong start from Joe Ryan. Joe Ryan pitched seven smooth innings for the Minnesota Twins, who got a two-run homer by Jose Miranda and a three-run shot from Trevor Larnach and hung on to beat the Kansas City Royals 6-5 in the opener of a four-game series.
